Back up your data
You used your iPhone to take hundreds of photos and videos. By backing up your data, you can make sure that your information transfers over to the new iPhone.
There are a couple of options to choose from to back up your old iPhone. If you have iTunes installed on your computer, you can connect the device to backup your files.
Alternatively, if your old phone is still active, you can connect to iCloud and backup your data that way.
Clear your personal information
Before you send your old phone to a buyer, you want to make sure that your personal information is removed. This includes your credit card, files, passwords, and other personal data.
Other information that you should remove includes signing out of iMessage and turning off Find My iPhone. Find My iPhone stop the new owner from activating the device, and it can be turned off by going into your iCloud settings.
If you have any other devices connected such as an Apple Watch, you should unpair this as well. Once you’ve done this, you can go into the settings to erase all settings. This will restore your phone to the factory settings and help ensure that the new owner isn’t using your data. If you also have a SIM card inside the iPhone, you should also remove this as well before sending it out.
Preparing the iPhone
A clean looking iPhone can be easier to sell online. You can use a soft cleaning cloth to make the screen spotless and the metal casing shine. This can help to make the pictures look better when you post them online and get a higher price. If you used a screen protector and it’s pretty scratched up, you can also replace it as well.
If you still have the charging cable and power adapter, you should also gather this as well. If you don’t need them for your new iPhone, any accessories such as cases can help you get a higher price. Besides, you have one less accessory just sitting around the room. For those that still have the original box, utilizing this can help you with shipping the old iPhone securely so that it arrives at its destination safely.
